Crisis Support

Many of us go through our lives with little emotional distress and, under normal conditions, may never feel a need for therapy. There are times, however, when positive and negative life changes can cause us great stress. At such points, the stress hinders our ability to function at our normal levels. If this is for a short time or one is able to maintain professional and family requirements with reduced functioning, then it is likely that the crisis will pass and the support of friends and family will suffice.

If however, the change in your life has caused distress that is beyond what you are able to deal with alone, or if your life commitments are such that you are unable to allow yourself to function below your optimum level, then therapy may be a good option for you. In such cases, we embark on a short-term therapeutic process focused on helping you through the crises. Talking to a professional at such a point in your life helps to increase clarity. It reduces the chances of you being exposed to making rash decisions, interpersonal mistakes or professional misjudgments at a time when stress may otherwise compromise your ordinary judgment and function.

Times where crisis intervention may be beneficial:

•        Exposure to trauma

•        Divorce

•        Sickness or death in the family

•        Loss of a job

•        Problems conceiving

•        Positive changes such as immigration or marriage
